The purpose of the Education Support Program (also known as CIRC) is to address the educational needs of children and young people in Residential Care placements across Ovens and Murray. The Education Support program’s main focus of support is to re-engage the young people into their chosen education pathway, considering best interests of the young person. The ES Worker will work closely with the young person to identify client voice, and allow for neurodiversity, disability inclusion, trauma informed practice, flexible settings, varied learning styles, level of missed schooling, learning gaps, and any other consideration needed for young people living in Out of Home Care. Mainstream school may not always be the preferred pathway for some children and young people, and it is important to consider flexible and alternative learning opportunities. As part of this supported pathway a focus on developing the literacy and numeracy skills of the young person are made a priority. Referrals are completed by the Child Protection Case Manager or ICMS Case Manager allocated to a young person.
